Customer Review: Fine In Every Way..
I selected this ESQ Beacon Chronograph from an assortment of available watches available as part of a 40 year Service Award from my place of employment. I've always been a watch person and regularly looked for new watches until my Dear One gave me a Rolex some 20 years ago. This has been the first watch that has tempted me in many, many years. I read what I could about it. Information was scarce or even (as on this Amazon page) inaccurate. (No, this isn't a woman's model as the product information says). But features and appearance coupled with the Movado name led to make this choice. I received the watch yesterday and even such short acquaintance tells me the choice was a good one. First Impressions: This watch is BIG. I always viewed my Rolex Datejust as a large watch but next to this ESQ it is small, small, small. This is not a negative. Indeed, considering how much information this watch can provide between its various dials and its rotation bezel, it is a positive plus. Interestingly none of the material, either here on Amazon, or elsewhere speaks to this models aviation motif. And "motif" may not in fact be the right word because the bezel is specifically designed to help aviators answer specific questions about fuel usage, air speed, and range. More amazing is the absolute dearth of information about any of this provided with the watch. (My pilot son provided me with the information needed to take advantage of the watches capability) How useful this will actually prove to be for me as a non-aviator only time will tell. But the same rule also can work as a traditional rotating slide rule. That I will no doubt have use for from time to time - but will I have my reading glasses with me on those occasions? Without them the small number and markings will be little more than a blur. Since ESQ calls no attention to these capabilities, but does stress the watches' style let me also say a bit about that. Simply put this is a beautiful watch. The finish is gorgeous - a tasteful mix of brushed stainless steel with a few touches of polished metal. The aviator motive is used throughout the watch. The left hand chronometer dial being the nicest touch in this regard: It accurately mimics a classic aeronautical instrument. Wonderful! The hand are bold - with large glow-in-the-dark areas as are/do the numerals themselves. The chronograph capability allows for accurate elapsed time as well as individual lap times and/or multiple contestant times. Very nice. So, put it all together and this watch is IMO a keeper. If you like the style don't hesitate at all. :)
Customer Review: Big, no-nonsense, watch good for Tux's or T's.
I bought this watch a little over 6 months ago. I was very fortunate and bought it through a retailer using a 50% off coupon - so managed to pick it up for $275. I previously owned a Maverick II from Swiss Army and while that watch had the right aesthetic idea, I found it's build quality lacking. This ESQ is to the Swiss Army what Arnold was to DeVito in Twins...(1980's movie?) Anyway, point is it's robust. It wears like a tank, though you get accustomed to it, and gives you the confidence that you're wearing a time piece that will last. I needed a watch I could wear regardless of how formal I was dressed. As a wedding photographer I frequently dress "up" for events and I wanted a watch that I could wear either while photographing nature, or at a formal event. It's one of the most attractive "tough" watches I've seen. This watch features a sliding rule ability which I'm only now learning to use... but it could come in handy for those who remember how to use this feature. The hands are bright at night, the numbers big and easy to read. My only complaint is that occasionally I'll stop the watch when I get dressed... Not sure how I do that... but it does happen occasionally. After looking for several months at time pieces for men that were in the $300-$800 price range, I felt this was the watch for me... and when I got the deal I did, It won me over. It's worth the $550 retail - It's DEFINITELY worth the $275 sale price. Even my friends who have Rolex Submariners have complimented the watch.

I like the look of the watch; it is sharp looking, and definitely a good value for the price. I had to give it 4 stars because of the following complaints : -the seconds hand does not land exactly on the marker -the rotating bezel is a little loose for my liking -it seemed to scratch easily than what I expected In spite of my complaints, it is a good value for a good brand, and I am happy with the purchase. I tend to be rough with watches and somewhat overly critical, so take my comments with a grain of salt. Based on what I wanted, and the current fashion trends (a lot of watches out there are really too big in diameter), this watch was a reasonable size, simple in design, and classy looking.

A Watch You'll Love Forever

I got this as a graduation present and I am absolutely in love with it. My friend's jaw dropped upon seeing it and said that it's beautiful and I agree!
Esperanza's stainless steel strap is a style that's both elegant and striking. It will never be outdated. I can wear this with jeans and call it a day or wear it with fancy clothes and still feel dressed up. I can imagine being an octogenarian and still loving this watch. =)
I usually prefer silver or platinum-toned jewelry and this complements pretty much everything. The sapphire glass is scratch-resistant (good for clumsy people like me!) and it comes with a nice leather case. I must say that the pièce de résistance is the silver-mirror face which is a lot different from most Movado designs I've seen and this detail, by far, is what makes this specific piece special. I've gotten compliments left and right from people I don't even know, asking me where I got it and how much it was. It's worth its price for sure.
Truly one of the best presents I've ever gotten.

I purchased the Movado Gentry Watch from Amazon for $188.00. I thought the price was too good to be true, and it was. Although Amazon advertised the watch as new, they actually sent me a used watch. It had visible debris on the face of the watch and there was a note saying the battery needed to be replaced within 6 months. Also, on the back of the watch, there were visible signs (dents in the metal on the back of the watch) that the watch had been opened up for some reason. I returned the watch to Amazon and they refunded me $140.44. Amazon is great for books, but if your buying high end stuff like jewelry and watches, it's buyer beware!

Upon arrival, the watch is TINY...it is the exact size of a ladies watch. the band is very thin, the face is round and very small...It is the same size of my ladies Klaus Kobec watch, actually a bit smaller. So if your husband, or man likes tiny, feminine watches, then go ahead, but I dont know any man who would wear this tiny watch. I prefer automatic watch rather than a quartz. But I can't help myself to add this watch into my collection. Main reason is I love the design from Movado. So this is the only quartz watch I have at the moment.

It's a sport watch but you can wear it as a dress watch too. It's made of solid high quality stainless steel so it's quite heavy.

If Movado put anti-reflective sapphire for dial window material, that would make this watch very distinctive.

Unfortunately, like other quartz watches, I don't think you can pass this watch to your sons 20 years from now.

To be honest, I was quite concerned about buying something as high-end as a Movado watch (specifically the one with the diamond dial around the face) on Amazon. I had seen it in a couple local jewelry stores and loved it, but was a bit daunted by the $1200 price.
I was shocked to find it here for less than half the price. I ordered it thinking I'd probably not like it after carefully verifying my options for a return, should that be necessary.
I spoke with a great guy at Amazon by phone, and he assured me that Amazon's policy is 30 days. Once I received the item, exactly on the date they promised, I was absolutely thrilled.
The watch is what I wanted-not a knockoff, not a second, not a refurb. It's an outstanding timepiece, and it looks like, well, $1200.
Movado is a higher maintenance watch than most folks realize. Be prepared to spend some money so every couple years to replace the battery. You will need to send it into Movado to have this done, as your local jewelry may or may not be able to replace the seal to factory specifications and you may find yourself with moisture in the timepiece, which can of course, destroy it. Amazon, of course, does not do that kind of thing. You'll need to contact Movado directly for that type of work, so save your box for shipping.
I'm thrilled about this watch. It's beautiful-great with dressy or business apparel. If it's available when you're shopping-don't hesitiate! Buy it before they are gone!!

A decent watch. The face is flatter than I would have liked. However it is an UNUSUAL movado with numbers rather than the traditional rhodium dot.

Goes with with brown/tan outfits which was the reason I bought it. The luminous intensity is very bright, better than my Tag diving watch!!.

One sour note. The clasping mechanism prevents you from taking out the correct number of links for a snug fit. If you try to do this you won't be able to get watch on over your hand.

My girlfriend recently bought me this watch for our anniversary and I've been very impressed with it so far. I have a Movado museum dial but was looking for something that is a little more casual and this watch fits the bill nicely. The craftsmanship is excellent and the detailing is quite eye-catching. I've received more than a few compliments on it in the past month and it goes as well with a shirt and tie as it does with shorts and sandals.
A word of caution though. The watch is rated for water resistance to 30 meters but that rating is often misunderstood. It basically means the watch can handle a light splash but thats about it. This watch (or any other watch with the same depth rating) should never be immersed in water. In order to be safe for swimming, etc a watch needs to be rated to 100 meters or more.

I was not going to buy any more watch that requires batttery anymore, but after checking this watch at the Movado store in Vegas, I decided to get the pair. Never regret the decision.
Be careful at the airport, though, as this watch will trigger the alarm at the X-ray machine at the check point , so don't place it in the carry-on bag, instead, place the watch in the smaller container. This happened to me twice at the local airport.

This watch has regular men's size but midsize (i.e. short) band. So, if the band fits your wrist the watch may look too big. People with 7.5 in wrist circumference may be the only 'sweet spot' for this watch. Nice watch though.

A pin came out of one of the links and the watch fell to the ground without my wife noticing it. luckily, after a frantic search, we were able to find it. After wearing relatively inexpensive watches my whole life, I decided to upgrade and splurged on this watch. It is an awesome watch - you'll think you're wearing a piece of art on your wrist.

I checked out other brands, including TAG and Seiko, but Movado just has such a distinctive style. If you like the minimalist look, and don't need all the bells and whistles associated with other watches (I can't remember the last time I actually needed a chronograph), then buy this watch. You won't be disappointed!

I don't write reviews but I HAD to write a review on this. I bought the watch as a Christmas gift for my fiancé and he absolutely LOVED IT!!!!! What was so amazing about it, he ended up getting me a Movado that looked about identical to the one I gave him. He bought his from Sam's and paid a bit over $500. I told him to take it back because of how much I paid and we could order it online. Of course he wouldn't but I am amazed at the deal I received. He loves it and said that he's labeling it as his "special occasion" watch! Thanks Amazon!!!!!

Great Watch

I just purchased this watch 3 days ago for my boyfriend as a Christmas present. He has yet to see it, but I'm sure he's going to love it. The watch looks totally different from the picture. It actually looks a lot better in person and it's a lot bigger too! The shipping from amazon was extremely fast. The only thing that I didn't like with the shipping was how the watch was packed. It barely had any bubble wrap holding it in place and the box the watch came in was opened to where the watch was coming out of the box. I wasn't too happy with that, and it's a good thing the watch had the plastic covering sticking to the dial face and the band. Amazon should do a much better job with the shipping but it's no big deal since the watch was so cheap for the price. I haven't seen this watch for a cheaper price on the web. Amazon has a great price for it and it's brand new so I'm very happy with it. I will be back to purchase this same watch for myself in the ladies section because I like it so much.

Greatest I ever got on a pricy item!!

I bought this watch as a xmas gift for my boyfriend, although he hasnt technically got it yet---- I thought it was GORGEOUS. Even better than the pic. I read what some people said about the face being too small, I guess if youre a "big" boy maybe the watch is too small for you, I mean I think it would look great on any normally fit person. Amazons deal was great, I was looking at one on our Navy base which is always $100+ cheaper than the mall. I still would of paid $400 for the same thing I paid $200 for!!! I recommend this for any woman who wants buy their baby a practical but sophistcated gift which looks like they spent a bunch on a quality product. I was IMPRESSED!!!

too easy to scratch

Within three weeks, the face of this watch had many tiny scratches. I contacted Watch Grabber to determine if it was even an authentic Movado, and they claim it is and suggest that perhaps Movado has changed the crystal on their lower end watches. I have worn Movado for decades and never had a single scratch before! So now I am faced with paying for my own repair of a new watch because "wear and tear" are not covered under the warranty.

PERFECT! except...

Since the band is a high polished stainless steel, it scratches very easily. There is a little "M" engraved on the clasp that I have already scratched off after a half of a days wear. However, the watch is absolutely beautiful and was definitely worth the money! Not to mention that my wrists are not exactly tiny and the watch fit perfectly. I've had trouble with other watch bands being too small. Overall, I love this watch and I'm glad that I found it on Amazon for a great price!

Beautiful

I purchased this watch as a Christmas present for a friend. My friend was absolutely delighted with it and can't thank me enough.. so much so..she is still thanking me now.. a month later!!! It is a beautiful watch..beautifully presented too. So glad i chose it.

Very unhappy with purchase

Movado watches are nice watches but i recommend you buy elsewhere.

I ordered the watch for my wifes christmas present on Dec 5th but did not receive it until a week after christmas. When it came the crown to set it was frozen so we could not set the time. We send it back and received another one this one worked but it looked like someone ran sandpaper on one side of the band it was all scuffed up.

I wish I did'nt try and save money and spend the extra 200 dollars and bought it somewhere else at least I would have got a quality product that Movados should be.

This is my worst experience with Amazon but it only takes one like this to be a very disatified customer.

Elegant and Unusual Watch

I received this GORGEOUS watch for my 50th Birthday. I already had an expensive gold watch and wanted something less pretentious, but beautiful, sassy and unusual. This gets perfect marks for those reasons. My only complaint (be it a small one) is I find it difficult to get the clasp through the very small opening...could just be my eyesight is going...now that I'm of a certain age.

Elegant looking

This watch is very elegant looking. It will go great with any of them ladies evening dress. Very sturdy built and seems like it will last a lifetime.

Simple elegance

I've been very pleased with the Movado Museum watch. Its elegant and sophisicated with a face that works well for those with a smaller wrist. At first I thought, no second hand, no notches to indicate minutes, how will I be able to tell time? Surprisingly, it is quite easy to read. Now it won't do for a sailor trying to cross the starting line precisely 10 minutes away but for general telling of time it is quite easy.
